Kissi, Sierra Leone
17th Century or earlier
Previous Collection: William Siegmann former curator of African art at the Brooklyn Museum of Art

This is a diminutive and ancient Kissi Pomdo of stylized form. The short tubular body is surmounted by an abstract head with a detailed coiffure. There are decorations engraved all over the figure. The surface shows extreme wear from generations of handling; the stone has some erosion from exposure and surface wear over time.

This figure stands 6 inches tall.
