Magic Charm
Dayak, Borneo, Indonesia
19th Century

This incredibly dynamic charm was once attached to a large Shaman's box made of bark. The body of the figure has incredible movement, the arms are thin with vast negative space in between and the legs are almost conceived as a stepped ladder. The face is contorted, screaming with emotion, the head bends to one side adding aesthetic force to the sculpture. The patina is deep and aged with areas that are lighter than others emphasizing that areas of this figure were once covered when it was attached to the box. In excellent condition.

This charm stands 10 inches tall
