Handle from Betel Nut Crusher
Lombok, Indonesia, 19th century
Previous Collection: Irwin Hersey, New York

This is one of the finest Lombok handles I’ve ever owned. Carved from buffalo horn, it’s very well conceived, with effective use of negative space and fluid movement throughout the entire sculpture. It’s very well worn surface has a beautiful deep and handled patina. There are two very old native repairs, using wire to stabilize cracks at the top and bottom of the handle. Otherwise it is in excellent condition.

The height of the handle is 5 inches tall.
