This mortar’s ancient and well worn surface gives the impression it was created in the “Stone Age”, and not just carved with stone tools. The design consists of 3 ancestor faces and one half figure carved in deep relief. It has a very powerful, asymmetric presence; important qualities marking early PNG works of art.

This mortar stands 4 inches tall
