Pottery heads like this example are used during the "Yina" ceremony after the harvest of the Yams. This is an expressive and beautiful example with vibrant pigments and a pierced septum as well as pierced ears. This particular head is impressive from all angles; many on the market lack the symmetry and artistry of this example.
