Amulet Figure
Tanimbar, Indonesia
Early 20th Century
Provenance: American Collection

Small ancestor figures were placed on household altars to offer protection and well being for the village. This fluid carving of the legs and arms display a minimalist approach to abstract stylization. The figure has beautiful depth perception, as the eye moves between the limbs and the body of the figure. Simple facial features only add to the mysteriousness of this object.

Height: 3 inches
