Spatula

Kenya, Dayak, Borneo
19th Century

A richly patinated abstracted Aso head represents the top of this ceremonial spatula; while the lower portion of the object has developed a deep encrusted patina from thick magical substances. Carved from iron-hard wood this is a fine representation of how utilitarian objects become art through a Dayak’s sculptor’s virtuosity and brilliance.

This Spatula stands 11.75” Tall
