Shaman’s Magic Figure

Known as debata ribu-ribu; these Toba Batak figures possess great magic. They are used in the casting of magic spells by datu priests. Aesthetically , this example is fantastic. Powerfully carved with fine features like elongated hands, beautifully sculpted ears and a mesmerizing face. The mouth with filed teeth are meant to be intimidating. Examples of this quality were most likely reserved for the most important and accomplished Shaman. The patina is deep and encrusted from generations of use. Important to note; is that this figure possesses a square cavity for the insertion of puk-puk.

This figure stands 7.5” tall.
