Spoon
Timor, Indonesia
Buffalo Horn
Early 20th Century

This unique spoon from Timor is smaller than many other examples. Carved from a single piece of horn, the spoon's oval bowl is elegantly simple compared to the finely decorated curved handle. The unique humanistic body splits into two heads, exhibiting avian characteristics, a common motif in Timor spoons. The spoon has been used extensively, causing a beautifully marbled patina.
