Ritual Bowl

Provenance: Collected by Eric Robertson, NY in the 1970’s
This distinctive bowl has an abstracted face at one end with bands of horizontal slits for eyes and a large opening representing its mouth. Another human head surmounts the vessel, projecting upward and has attached arms bent toward the center. Inside it contains what appear to be the remains of offerings. No definitive research has been done to confirm the exact function of these types of vessels.
The Barbier Mueller Museum exhibited a similar example in its exhibition “6000 ans de Receptacles, La vaisselle des siecles”.
