Large anthropomorphic wooden votive figures, inhabited by ancestral spirits, were kept in shrines as protective agents against negative forces in Nepal. Figures were often served libations of mud and other magical substances as offerings to the spirits thought to inhabit them. Residues from mud libations are still visible on-top of the figure and give it an intriguing patina. The figure exhibits a beautifully cubic style and deep side cavities gives the sculpture an intense vitality when viewed from the side.
