Mortar
Dayak Tribe, Borneo, Indonesia
19th –early 20th century
Previous Collections: JJ Porchez, Paris.
Phillip Konzett, Vienna, acquired from above in the 1990’s
With its expressive face and wild positioning of the arms this zoomorphic mortar is a dynamic work of art. The clawed hands are finely carved and the ‘bowl’ of the mortar is deep showing excellent signs of use. The patina overall is brilliant from decades of storage and use. In excellent condition.
