The Hampatong is a carved wooden ancestor figure revered by the Dayak people of Borneo. This male Hampatong is notable for its diminutive yet expressive face, which exudes a sublime expression. Inventive details include elongated arms that gracefully hang down along its torso, each adorned with claw-like fingers. Its slightly flexed legs and elongated body evoke comparisons to the iconic sculptures of Alberto Giacometti. The patina is exceptional, featuring deep weathering in areas and deposits of white lichen that impart a stone-like appearance to the figure.
