Adze Handle

Provenance: Old European collection

Ancestors played a vital role in daily life for the people of West Papua.  This adze handle has two stacked and inverted ancestors figures carved in relief.  Below the figures, the adze’s shaft and base is beautifully carved with geometric patterns.  The surface is extremely well worn from many years of use. The patina is dark and brilliant.
