Tun Tun, Pig Trap Amulet

Iban Dayak, Borneo, Indonesia
19th c

Provenance: Lawrence Grant, retired insurance executive who acquired this tun tun when he was working in Singapore between 1981-1985.

This is an exceptional example of a tun tun. Its expressive face with inlayed glass eyes and curvilinear body are elegantly stylized.  The well-balanced proportions of this tun tun, make it a masterly carving.  In between its legs the original magic bundle is still present, which is very rare to find.  The wood is very hard and it has a dark crusty patina,

Height: 20 ¾ in / 52.7 cm
