Lime Spatula

Murik Lakes, Papua New Guinea
Late 19th early 20th century
Provenance: Ben Tursh Collection, collected in the Murk Lakes 1960’s.

This lime spatula is well worn and wonderfully carved. Dating to the late 19th or early 20th century, this spatula has been heavily used and as a result exhibits a deeply encrusted patina and worn detail. Although handsomely carved, the facial features of the figure on top have been worn down, giving the stick a mysterious appearance. The facial features are carefully carved while the top has been decorated with geometric patterns.
