Lime Stick

April River, East Sepik Province, PNG, 19th Century
Previous Collections: Collected by Douglas Newton, New York
John and Marcia Friede, Rye, NY

Carved from the bone of a cassowary bird; this fantastic lime stick is simple yet extremely powerful. The figural element on the top of the lime stick is of an abstract face with bulging eyes, pierced mouth and concave cranium. The surface is aged and darkened from exposure and use over the generations.

This lime stick is 9.75" in length.
