Shaman’s Medicine Container

Nagju, Dayak, Borneo, Indonesia, 19th century

This medicine container consists of a bamboo container incised with a floral motif, surmounted with a wooden stopper carved in the form of a stylized feline. The carving of the stopper is amongst the best of its type. There is great tension and elegance exhibited throughout the figure. It is in excellent condition and has a deep brown patina throughout. Old inventory number # H-014 are painted on the base of the stopper and bamboo tube.

The height on the custom stand is 16.5 inches.
