Pig Trap Marker Tun-Tun

Dayak, Borneo
19th Century

This is an early example of a pig trap marker also known as a Tun-Tun. The body is finely carved with great curvature and negative space. The way the feet hang down is an unusual touch rarely seen on Tun Tuns. This example is carved from classic Borneo iron wood with a deep patina, and areas of erosion from decades of exposure and use. In excellent condition.

This Pig trap marker stands 17.5 inches tall.
