Divination Figure
Ifugao, Philippines
Late 19th/ early 20th Century
Provenance: Private American Collection

This rare figure in hunkered form is known as a Hapag. It was placed in a shaman's box and used during important rituals. This example is beautifully conceptualized; the face is very expressive, with ears projecting outwards on each side of its head. The body is well carved with thin limbs exposing vast negative space. The surface is deep and encrusted from numerous ritual libations. In excellent condition.
