Hampatong

Dayak. Borneo, Nagju
19th Century or Earlier

This is a superb Nagju Hampatong. The diminutive face possesses an incredibly sublime expression. There is no doubt this carver was a master; he went above and beyond to create a Hamaptong worthy of the ancients. Inventive details like fingers that seamlessly morph into the body and extend up to the neck; creating a fierce image. The flexed legs add to the animated and fearful imagery. The patina is exceptional; deep and weathered in areas with lykin deposits found through out.

The figure is 43 inches tall
