Dancing Figure

Ifugao, Philippines
Late 19th/20th Century

As if frozen in the middle of it’s tribal dance; this figure has fantastic character. While the body tips slightly to the side; the purposely carved disproportionate left arm comes back into the torso, creating a wild movement. Spinning the piece around physically gives the viewer a sense that the piece is dancing; as if being transported back to the time when the dance actually occurred. Carved from hardwood with a fine honey brown patina.

This piece stand 9.5 inches tall.
