Handle to Butter Churn
Nepal, Himalayan
19th Century
Previous Collection: Irwin Hersey Collection, NYC

Known as NETI; there are a variety of sculptural types of these handles; non-figurative and figurative. This NETI is rare and surreal in conception. Having two heads ( which is rare in and of itself ) the level of abstraction is tremendous. The bodies are in the form of knotted rope that intertwine creating great movement and a surrealist representation of the human form. Down by the circular 'handle connector' there are deep wear marks from generations of use, the wear is literally imbedded into the hardwood. The overall surface is aged and buttery from handling and use.

This object stands 9 inches tall.
