Shaman’s Transformation Mask



Iban, Dayak, Borneo, Indonesia, 19th - early 20th century

Iban masks of this fine quality are rare. Most known examples are quite crude. This mask has an extended mouth with a powerful expression. The overall shape of the mask is refined with flowing lines. Remnants of white and red pigment accentuate the masks expression. It is carved from medium dense wood and has a deep patina on the front and back.

The mask is 10 inches tall. The height on custom stand is 15 inches.
