Dance Mask

Bamana, Mali
19th Century
Previous collection:
Edy Hof, The Hague Netherlands
Antonio Casanovas, Madrid

This Komo society mask emits pure raw power. This example is completely unaltered and original with a patina heavily encrusted from offerings at the shrine where it was placed. The horns and animal hair on the mask enhance its power; aesthetically and metaphysically. These large masks are worn horizontally when danced and have quite an imposing look.

This mask is 30 inches in length.
