Doll 'Biiga'
Mossi, Burkina Faso
Early 20th Century
Ex: Private NYC Collection
This diminutive Mossi doll is a rare example. The extension on the chin
of the figure represents the classic way Mossi women wore a braid when
unmarried. When married the braid was placed in back of the head. The
head on this doll has numerous scarifications adding to the beauty of
the piece. The patina is deep from years of rubbing with butters and oils.
In excellent condition.
This Biiga stands 6 inches tall.
