Unlike the highly polished spirit spouse figures of the Baule; these divination figures are called Asye usu; they are associated with untamed wilderness–also referred to as "the bush spirit"–and various elements of the landscape. Bush Spirits are characterized by their heavy encrusted surfaces; which this piece has. The carving is very well done overall and the original fabric is still intact.
