19th Century or Earlier
This is a very fine Ashante gold weight. The imagery is of a male tribal leader sacrificing a chicken. The fowl is being placed into a pot that is elevated from a tall tripod like pole. The male figure with outstretched arms and tilting head is emotive and well cast. The chicken has an unusual amount of detail with its elongated beak and neck. The patina is varied and worn from generations of use.
