Passport Mask

Dan, Liberia
19th Century
Ex: Michael Oliver Collection, NYC
Ex: Drs. Jean and Noble Endicott, NYC

This small wooden "Ma Mask" is covered in leather; obscuring the facial features creating an enigmatic haunting appearance. The patina is such that the leather is worn deep into the wooden mask; yet in a subtle way the features peak through the leather which is quite impressive. This is an early example of a Ma Go ( Small head ) from Liberia.

This passport mask stands 2.75 inches tall.
