Rice paddles were used to scoop up large quantities of rice grain. Carved from a hard wood, this example is surmounted by a head with an extremely animated expression on its face. This is a common stylistic trait employed by Lombok artist, which is most often found on the figures that adorn the betel nut handles they are famous for creating. The patina is lustrous and dark, and the wood exhibits a deep and well aged patina.
