Standing Figure

Loma, Liberia
Late 19th/ Early 20th Century
Previous collection: William Siegmann former curator of African Arts at the Brooklyn Museum of Art

Standing on thick cubist legs this old and scarce figure has great presence. The body is well carved with subtle movement and the abstract flat face has a finely detailed coiffure, done in traditional Loma style. There are areas of exposed wood from erosion and heavy oxidation from age. This is a very old and powerful example carved from hardwood with a deep patina from use. The original fabric is still attached to the figure.

This figure stands 11.5 inches tall
